Spinal Mechanics Class Outline

Students will learn:

  • Principles of Osteopathy
  • Spinal and sacral mechanics and gait analysis
  • Shears
  • Gluten’s effects on animal motility

Day 1:

  1. Introduction to the Principles of Osteopathy
  2. Overview of class goals
  3. Hierarchy of protective mechanisms
  4. Blueprints of body, fascia explanation
  5. Introduction to energetic techniques
  6. Mechanical canine exam
  7. Explanation – principles of shock (Sympathetic overdrive)

Day 2:

  1. Vascular and lymphatic fluid dynamics overview
  2. Heart roll, AV twist and lungs overview and practice
  3. Gluten impaction review on kidneys, liver, and musculoskeletal dysfunction
  4. Cervical-thoracic lumbo-pelvis mechanics review
  5. Cervical exam – practical application on dogs
  6. Treatment of cranial base and cervical spine with energetic/functional indirect techniques

Day 3:

  1. Review Type I, Type II spinal mechanics and lumbo – pelvis mechanics
  2. Instruction of practical 15-minute treatment strategies
  3. Explanation of neurological lateral shears of the spine
  4. Introduction to Thomas Myers, LMT fascial outlines

Day 4:

  1. Explanation of pelvic paradigm and its application
  2. Explanation of descended/ascended sacral dysfunction
  3. Review of mechanical exams in correlation with fascial lines and roll/glide (Arthrokinematics) principles
